Here we give just a flavour of all the concerts, gigs, festivals and celebrations that take place in Budapest - there are so many, we just can't fit them all in! Comprehensive view of the culture and art of civilisations in Peru almost three centuries before the Spanish conquest. Open till 16. September.

The tatars are back but with a much nicer aim than in 1241 when they raided Hungary. Paintings, gold treasures, Buddhist statutes and manuscripts plus traditional tents, Jurta’s and cultural programs in the museum garden. Open till 2. September.

Our lovely old bridge is closed to traffic every weekend, so pedestrians can enjoy a lovely walk from Buda to Pest. There are concerts, shows, markets and activities for the small ones.

>> 8-15 August: Sziget Festival - multicultural youth festival Zsofi's choice!
Thousands of young people move out to an island in Budapest (Hajógyári sziget) in tents for a week to participate in a giant pop festival once known as Pepsi Island. Pepsi Island has since grown into the largest concert festival in Central Europe.
Bands to look forward to: Maddness, Faithless, The Killers, Rachid Taha, Pink, Manu Chao, The Chemical Brothers, Sinead O'Connor, V
ärttinä and a lot more. There is a great boat service to the island from 10 minute walk from budaveg.

>> 17-20 August: Festival of Folk Arts Zsofi's choice!
An event around August 20 in the Buda Castle giving the visitor an introduction to folk art and crafts from different regions of Hungary.

>>20 August: Foundation of the State and Constitution Day
As part of the celebrations a large-scale fireworks display is held in Budapest. All are welcome to join the crafts fair and concerts held along the Pest side of the Danube Embankment in the days before and after the festivities.


> 25 of August: BUDAPEST PARADE
Zsofi's choice!
It is a Budapest street carnival at the end of the summer. Very diverse music, 50 lorries the procession ends with a street party at Heroes Square and fireworks. See my photo on the top right corner:it was taken in front of the State Opera House at the Parade in 2002. www.budapestparade.hu.

Budafok's fame rest on the Hungarian Törley Champagne Factory. Of the many wine cellars in the area several can be visited as part of programs spiced up with folk dance performances, Swab parties and (depending on the season) vintage balls.<< website

The route of the marathon race goes along both banks of the Danube, across the most beautiful bridges of the town, showing the remarkable tourist sights of Budapest.

Christmas fairs are held in several parts of the city during December, but the best feeling can be find at the Vörösmarty Square.. Museums evoke the folk traditions related to Christmas, and stage fairs selling different applied art works

>> 31 December: European New Year`s Gala and Ball
The Opera House gives venue for the most prestigious Gala Evening of the year. The Gala Program starts at 8:00 pm, followed by a Gala Dinner and endless dance.

the country enjoys Continental weather, so there is very little rain. Budapest enjoys all four seasons - so in the summer it is very hot and in the winter
... but with numerous open-air thermal pools and the chance to ski on hills overlooking the city as well as ice skate in the City Park, the temperature is always just right! <<

>> The Budapestarena houses many pop and rock concerts. Last year we had a great selection from Britney Spears to Peter Gabriel and Kraftwerk. We saw Kraftwerk and it was possibly the best concert I have ever been to! They played all the hits and for a massive two and a half hours. I will add more concerts as son as they are announced. >>

Holloko Castle

>> The picturesque village of Hollókõ is situated in the Nográd Mountains in the North East and is a two hour drive from Budapest. It has lovely adobe houses and a reconstructed castle but can be very crowded at Easter.>>

Sziget Festival
>> Every year, one of the Islands in the Danube turns into the best music festival ever, the Sziget Festival. You can spend the whole week there, great concerts, films, activities and fantastic veggie food everywhere! From budaveg you can just take a boat which is the most pleasant way to enter the festival. Last year we enjoyed gigs by The Pet Shop Boys, Marc Almond, Faithless, Basement Jaxx and Die Artzte. We also enjoyed walking around and climbing into a giant plastic castle! See our pictures!>>
